Step into Healthcare Science
Changing perceptions of services delivered by a modern NHS is the goal. Portsmouth Hospitals Trust in Partnership with Education Business Partnership (EBP) and Aimhigher invited school children to meet healthcare science staff from Queen Alexandra’s Hospital and open their eyes to the range of professions and roles within Healthcare Science workforce.
Over a hundred Year 10 and 11 students from the Portsmouth area visited St James’s Hospital, Southsea. Departments, included the Cardiac Investigations Unit, Pathology, Renal Department, Radiography and Clinical Engineering .
For the first time the cardiac department is on one site, and is larger and more specialised than ever. The new department has been designed to set standards in cardiac care. The facilities provided by Cardiac Investigations Unit include three cardiac catheterisation laboratories, three exercise treadmills, three echocardiography rooms, three ECG rooms, two ambulatory rooms, rhythm analysis rooms, pacing follow up facilities, dedicated transoesophageal echocardiography unit and reporting stations. All clinical facilities have direct links to cardiac outpatients, the cardiac wards, including coronary care care unit and accident & emergency. Better, larger open planned waiting areas for patients with improved access.
