Health and education are synonymous with high quality healthcare service. As such all members of staff are trained and educated to a high level. The collaborative encourages education and development, and works with academic institutions to ensure that education is relevant and applied in context.
The information below is the current academic routes available. However, as part of the modernisation of the healthcare science workforce new methods of training and education will appear along with new education providers. Those education providers will offer the new degree as a full-time mode of study. The current method of training will be supported throughout the transition between the current mode and the new mode.
Undergraduate Education
FdSc Clinical Physiology (Associate Practitioner)
A foundation degree in Clinical Physiology is offered by the City of Westminster College, London for those wishing to become Associate Practitioners in cardiology or other physiology based disciplines. This vocational programme requires the completion of a clinical skills logbook and a professional examination.
Potential applicants without the necessary academic qualifications can enrol onto the Foundation year programme, in preparation for the Foundation degree.
On completion of the Foundation Degree in Clinical Physiology, those members of staff with the ability and enthusiasm may continue to study and enrol into year 3 of the BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology programme.
BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology (Cardiac Physiologist)
A four year vocational degree programme culminating with state registration. This is the fundamental academic requirement for this career. As a vocational degree, students acquire clinical skills in the workplace and receive the under pinning knowledge from an accredited education provider. The completion of a clinical skills logbook and two professional examinations will provide you with a pathway into post graduate opportunities.
Bsc (Hons) Healthcare Science
A new programme to replace the existing method. Curriculum development continues between education providers and workforce departments. Those student with the necessary entry qualifications will be able to apply via the UCAS, when offered.
