Electrocardiography

The network offers a comprehensive package in electrocardiography including theory, clinical experience, interpretation and assessment.  The programme has been designed to suit the needs of the candidate and offer the opportunity to have a clinical skill recognised and acknowledged.  The educational programme is offered as individual modules or can be accessed as a complete package.  The programme will be delivered at the Regional Cardiac Physiology Training Centre by an accredited faculty.
 Module 1
This one day event delivers all the necessary theoretical knowledge behind electrocardiography, including instrumentation, practice and basic interpretation.  Ideally suited to a healthcare professional wanting to learn or consolidate an existing clinical skill.  Also suitable for student cardiac physiologists in year one or early year two under going the degree programme.

 Module 2
This part of the programme gives the candidate the opportunity to gain clinical experience from a choice of sites from around the region.  The network offers the choice of three hospital sites and a wide variety of clinical scenarios.  All clinical practice will be supervised by qualified and accredited members of staff.  Ideally suited for those healthcare professionals with an interest in cardiology.
     Module 3

This module is a one day event and will introduce the candidate to systematically interpret the 12 lead ECGs.  Those returning from module 2 will be able to return with their evidence from clinical practice and initiate their analysis skills.  The day will also cover rhythm abnormalities and morphological abnormalities.
       Module 4
Those candidates that require or wish to be  assessed in the practical aspects of electrocardiography and interpretation of a 12 lead resting electrocardiogram will return and be examined by accredited members of staff.  Successful candidates will receive a certificate of competency.
