Southampton General Hospital

Teacher Tour...

The second Teacher Tour was presented by SUHT.  Science teachers and careers advisors from the Southampton area were invited to visit the hospital and explore the world of healthcare science.

Dr Graham Petley, Medical Physicist, presented an overview of Southampton University Hospital Trust and the Healthcare science workforce.

After which, the teachers were given a tour of Medical Physics, Neurophysiology and Cardiology.  Each department demonstrated typical procedures performed in their field.

Working Lunch for Healthcare Science
The Southampton General Hospital hosted its annual working lunch in support and promotion of careers within healthcare science.  Pupils from local schools were invited to the morning period and were given an introduction to how the hospital functions on a daily basis.  After which the pupils toured stands manned by healthcare scientists demonstrating their roles and careers.  The Technical Cardiology department was represented by three student cardiac physiologists.  The afternoon session allowed students from local colleges to follow the same journey as the pupils.  Over 250 children/students took up the challenge and were a credit to their school/college.
